Corza Medical announced today at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) conference that it launched new Onatec ophthalmic microsurgical sutures.

The company developed the Onatec needles from highly tempered stainless steel to ensure high bending resistance and durability. Its automated manufacturing process allows for precise needle geometries and accurate grinds. The Westwood, Massachusetts-based company said this enables the stitching of the finest types of tissue in the smallest spaces.

Corza says Onatec needles have a high-quality surface finishing to ensure optimal penetration. That results in less trauma to the tissue and enhanced patient comfort.

Jack Simmons, SVP and GM of ophthalmology at Corza, said in a news release that Onatec “signifies a momentous advancement” in the company’s ability to meet the needs of its ophthalmic partners. Simmons said the new suture portfolio enhances Corza’s own product offerings while supporting every aspect of the surgical treatment journey, ranging from initial incision to closure.

“Onatec represents Corza Medical’s commitment to innovation and growth in the ophthalmic surgery market,” said Tom Testa, CEO of Corza Medical. “With Onatec, we are positioned to deliver tailored, high-quality solutions that address the evolving needs of a global market. Our dedication to meeting unmet clinical needs of our customers enhances our value proposition and strengthens our position as a trusted partner in the future of eye care.”
